Through the Adopt a Social Worker program, we match churches, businesses and other types of organizations with an individual county social worker from Ramsey, Washington, Dakota, Winona or Fillmore County.
Groups learn firsthand from the social worker of what is going on in their community and are provided with an opportunity to respond. Those who have participated find it’s a meaningful way to serve their community.
Current Adopt a Social Worker partners include: Hope Church (Oakdale), Crossroads Church (Woodbury), Edina Realty Foundation, The Alley Church (Cottage Grove), Christ Lutheran Church (Preston), Goodview Trinity Lutheran Church (Winona) and Elim Lutheran Church (Scandia).
What to expect
The social worker will share needs with the group as they come up. Partners typically receive two or fewer requests per month.
The group agrees to:
- Consider each request and share it with members
- Let the social worker know whether they can meet the request
- Mail or deliver the resources within seven days
Groups and social workers have some latitude to determine how they will work together. For example, sometimes a case manager requests or agrees to receive emotional or spiritual support from a partner, such as prayer and encouragement. Also, partners can request to receive regular updates on how the resources they provide are being used.
We’re always available to help support all facets of the relationship.
