Sponsor a Child or Family for the Holidays

For 15 years, Care in Action Minnesota has connected local foster youth and families in need with those who can help, not just during the holidays, but all year long!

With so many facing lost wages due to COVID-19, the holidays may be particularly challenging for families that were already struggling to make ends meet. So this holiday season—whether you wanted to give back to your community or find out how to adopt a family for Christmas—it’s the perfect time to spread some hope, kindness and cheer into 2020!

When you contribute through Care in Action Minnesota, you join a group of friends and neighbors passionate about lifting up families at a time when they need an extra hand. 100% of donations go directly to struggling local families. Care in Action Minnesota is volunteer lead, so you can give knowing your whole gift will have a direct impact.

Ways to Brighten the Holidays For a Child in Need

We are extremely grateful for support of any size! With your gift you will send a powerful message of care and support. Here are a few ways to help make the Holidays special for kids in need:

Adopt-A-Family

Choose a family’s wish list and purchase some or all of the items they have selected. Donors typically spend $200-$275 per wish list.

Sponsor a Child

Choose a child’s wish list and purchase some or all of the items they have selected. Donors typically spend $50-100 per wish list. We also ask that you consider a monetary gift of $25 per list for the associated costs of gathering, wrapping, and distributing gifts to the children.

Donate

This year, your online donation of $10, $20, or $50+ is the safest, most effective way for you to make sure a child in need receives wrapped gifts, specially selected for the child.

Purchasing gift cards is also great, (preferably Visa, Target, Walmart, or general retailer) so that a parent or child may select the perfect gift.

Spread the Word

Ask family, friends, and colleagues to join you in sponsoring children’s wish lists this Holiday season.

Ask your employer if they would match your contribution or if they would be interested in sponsoring children’s wish lists.

Frequently Asked Questions

Looking for a way to engage your employees and build team morale? You and your team can select multiple children to sponsor – shopping together can be a fun and meaningful team-building exercise. Or, hold a drive for the items most needed by our children and families. Your company may also choose to match the value of the gifts their employees provide and thereby double the impact of each gift. By coming together as a team, employees will share the joy of bringing holiday cheer to children.

Sometimes, items are hard to find. If you cannot locate a specific item, we suggest finding a similar item or focusing on other items on the wish list.

If you are unable to fill a child’s wish list, Care in Action Minnesota is also accepting new, general items. We provide gifts to children of all ages.  A variety of items in different colors and sizes – from infant to adult XL – are always welcomed. We ask you to keep the following in mind:

  • Stuffed animals and blankets need to be in original packaging
  • No gently-used items
  • Any clothing needs to be new with tags
